I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

No Fail Rice Pilaf

This is the best way I've found to prepare rice hands down.

1 1/2 cups rice
3 cups chicken broth
1 tsp butter
1 - 2 tbsps finely chopped onion
salt, pepper and parsley to taste
2 cups chopped cooked chicken (optional)

Start by soaking the rice in enough water to cover for 15 minutes, then drain.  In a large frying pan sauté onion in butter until translucent. Add rice and stir to coat the grains. I used jasmine rice here, but have also used white and brown rice. Heat 2-3 minutes then stir in the broth and seasonings and bring to a boil. Pour into a baking dish.

Doesn't look like much here eh?

Cover and place in a 350 F oven for 20 minutes, fluff and serve.

Goes well with chicken or pork or shish kebab (really pretty much anything!) Like these Pork Chops with Stewed Veggies
