I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Stacked Scalloped Potatoes

Just a little change from regular scalloped potatoes that will give you a neater serving on your plate.

5 medium potatoes
1 medium onion

Look for similar sized potatoes. Peel and trim to square off then slice thinly. Thinly slice the onion as well.

Arrange potato slices in a buttered baking dish, stacking on edge adding an onion slice every now and then.

Make bechamel sauce:

1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk
1 tsp salt
pinch pepper
1/3 cup grated swiss or cheddar cheese
paprika

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat and whisk in the flour. Cook 1 minute. Add milk and keep whisking while cooking for 1 more minute, until smooth. Add salt, pepper and a sprinkle of paprika.

Pour sauce over potatoes and top with grated cheese.

Bake at 375 F for 1 hour until potatoes are tender and golden.
